About the Author

J. Lynn Else loves reading and writing about awesome women from antiquity. Besides history, she also gets nerdy with Star Wars, Star Trek, and MST3K. She’s self-published two historical fiction novels set in ancient Egypt, The Forgotten: Aten’s Last Queen and The Forgotten: Heir of the Heretic. Descendants of Avalon, Awakenings book 1, a YA Fantasy with interwoven elements of the legends and people of King Arthur's time, was released through Inklings Publishing in May 2018. Additionally, in July 2018, she self-published a sci fi novella, Strangely Constructed Souls, which asks 'what the price of revenge and how far would you go to right a wrong?'

J. Lynn’s always had a flare for the dramatic, graduating college with a theater major and a dance minor. She lives in Minnesota with her husband and two kids where her shelves are overrun with books, her kitchen is overrun with loose-leaf tea, and her workroom is overrun with Funko Pop figures. She enjoys sketching, reliving her 1990s by watching the latest X-Files episodes, honing her Fruit Ninja skills, and randomly busting out into song and dance. She believes in unicorns and practicing random acts of awesome.

124 NICU Days

A Preemie Tale of Love, Loss and Healing

by Ryan Rhodes

124On December 30, 2010, my wife went into premature labor with our twin boy and girl. This is my journal detailing our 124 day vigil at the local neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), where we lost our boy, kept our girl, and found the strength to get through it all and heal as a family.

About the Author

Ryan Rhodes is a freelance writer and editor who has written nearly 200 articles in the information technology (IT) market space. He also has more than ten years worth of weekly newspaper humor columns to his credit, and can refer to himself as an "award winning columnist," although that's a term that can only be applied very loosely.

A life spent writing IT articles is not one that lends itself to interesting anecdotes, so Ryan spends a lot of time inadvertently doing really stupid things that eventually become humor column topics. For example, Ryan once detonated a grenade in his parents' backyard and received a glancing blow from an oncoming train, to list just two of his more infamous acts of glaring stupidity.

A life spent growing up in rural Southeastern Minnesota also provided a treasure trove of humor material, such as being carried by a sow by his groin for several feet and snapping an electric fence in two using only his chest after sprinting headlong into the voltage charged wire.

Jin-Ling’s Two Left Feet

by Helen Chen

Jin-Ling'sLike the yin and the yang, Jin-Ling is comprised of two equal parts that fit together. One part is the dutiful Chinese daughter who does everything her immigrant parents expect of her, and the other part is the American teenage girl who yearns for the independence that she sees her peers taking for granted every day.

Jin-Ling would do anything to have Tony Blake - the smartest boy in school - for her prom date. Tony not only has the look that her friends would approve, but also meets her parents' definition of a "good" boy. Jin-Ling's hopes are shattered when she finds out Tony is going to prom with Kim - one of her very best friends. What should she do? No matter what she decides, it seems that Jin-Ling is destined to always feel as if she is walking on two left feet - feet that are often heading in opposite directions.

In Jin-Ling's Two Left Feet, Helen Chen explores the challenges and struggles of fitting in with a touching and sensitive narrative of an Asian American teenager's voice. Heartwarming and humorous, this compelling story of clashing cultural expectations and self identity will be enjoyed and related to by all who come across it.

I Belly Dance Because…

The Transformative Power of Dance

by Terri Allred

IThe purpose of this book is to celebrate the transformative power of belly dance. The contributors have opened their lives and hearts to share their passion. Their stories of healing, compassion, joy, community, connection, and self-expression await you. As the idea for this book began to take shape, I placed an open call to belly dancers all over the world to submit essays for this book. The only guideline was that submissions should share how belly dance has transformed and enriched their lives. I hope that you will appreciate the courage of those who choose to dance and who have shared their stories. They have done so because they, too, believe in the transformative power of belly dance!
